23 Grand Parade – a Georgian town house used as an office for decades – was acquired by media entrepreneur Daryl Willcox in February 2007 and plans for refurbishment began immediately with the help of Camillin Denny Architects. The Grade 2 listed property sits within a conservation area. This meant complying with stringent requirements from local planners and conservation officers. This was a time consuming process and it wasn’t until January 2008 that the builders, Chalmers & Co, were able to make a start.
The building retains original features such as elegant doors and banisters. Most fireplaces remain, including a range cooker in the basement. Inappropriate additions to the building were removed or replaced. Modifications were designed in consultation with local officials.
